How to make a 3×4 photo
- Select a head-and-shoulders photo.
- Position the 3:4 crop box — the aspect ratio is locked for you.
- Pick a DPI; 300 gives 900 × 1200 pixels.

Where 3×4 is used
The 3:4 ratio (or its close relatives) turns up constantly outside the US:
- 3 × 4 cm — employment and student ID photos across much of Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
- 35 × 45 mm — the ICAO standard used for passports in the UK, EU, Australia, India and many others. That is a 7:9 ratio, very slightly taller than 3:4; use the crop tool with a custom ratio when precision matters.
- Brazilian 3×4 — the standard document photo, requested by name.

A note on official requirements. This tool produces an image at the correct dimensions and aspect ratio. It does not verify head size, background colour, expression, glasses, headwear or lighting, all of which official authorities check. Always compare the result against the current published specification for the document you are applying for.

Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded to your server?
No. The image is decoded, processed and re-encoded by your own browser using the Canvas and Web Worker APIs. There is no upload endpoint for this tool — open your browser's network panel while you use it and you will see no request carrying image data.
Is 3×4 the same as 35×45 mm?
Nearly, but not exactly. 3×4 cm is 0.750; 35×45 mm is 0.778. For a strict passport submission use a custom 35:45 ratio in the crop tool; for a general ID photo 3:4 is what is asked for.
How much of the frame should the head fill?
Most specifications put the head at 70–80% of the image height, measured from chin to crown, with a small margin above. Check your specific requirement.
What happens to my file when I close the tab?
It is gone. The image only ever exists in your browser's memory as an object URL; closing or refreshing the page discards it. Nothing is written to our servers, and nothing is stored on your device unless you download the result.
